REUSE A CARDBOARD BOX INTO A FUN PLAYHOUSE
Now that my daughter is getting older, I have started making her all kinds of toys. When a large cardboard box arrived in the mail with her new carseat I knew I had to save it for something special. A playhouse is something she can use for a while. I only decorated the outside of it and plan to decorate the inside later when she is a little older and can help. I had half a can of chalkboard paint that I used to paint the house. This is a great way to make it dual purpose. You can also use acrylic or tempera paint.
You will need
To create the roof use the flaps cut off from the bottom of the box to extend the two top flaps. Over lap the flaps and use a hot glue gun to glue them together. Then glue both sides together at the top to create a pitched, triangular roof like the photo below.
I chose not to cover the front area of the roof in order to let light into the house.
Paint your house. If you are using chalkboard paint I would advise covering the floor and wearing gloves to protect your hands. I would also advise using the paint in a spare room or in the garage since it does have a strong odor. I painted the majority of the house with it. I believe it comes in other colors besides black if you would rather a brighter color.
Continue painting and decorating your house. I painted the roof with white acrylic paint and added a scalloped design. The door and the window shudders are painted with pink acrylic paint. I glued on flowered craft paper to the front of the shudders as well. The door is decorated with pink ribbon and a black plastic film roll as the door handle. Scraps of cardboard were used to make the mailbox. The rest is drawn on with colored chalk. I love the fact that the house can be changed by just erasing the chalk and starting over. Enjoy!
