Plastic Bag & Tape Sculptures
I've created full body casts using packing tape (see teaching art page) in the past but I've just recently seen the same technique using with packing tape and plastic bags. So I tried it first with my body (my foot and leg) and then with my niece's Care-Bear. It's a great idea to combine layers of plastic bags between two layers of packing tape because it uses less tape (which can get pretty expensive). The bags also add color and patterns to the clear packing tape. Here are the results:
One Blue Foot
I made a cast of my niece's Care-Bear doll using Target bags and clear tape.
First I put a layer of tape around the legs. The sticky side should be facing up so that it doesn't stick to the bear and so the plastic bag has something to stick to.
Next I covered the tape with the white part of the Target bag. I cut the bag into little sections because it was easier to work with smaller pieces. After 2 layers of the bag I covered it with another layer of tape (sticky side down).
