TRANSFORM A PLASTIC BAG INTO GIFT RIBBON
The holidays are coming which means many presents will be bought and many presents will be wrapped. Unwrapping a present is a lot of fun but as soon as it's unwrapped the wrappings go right in the garbage. Here is a fun way to decorate presents without spending money on wasteful wrapping papers and bows. Ribbon looks pretty wrapped around a gift. Make your own colorful ribbon using a plastic bag. It's quick & easy!
You will need:
You will need:
- 1 plastic bag. Thicker bags make fuller ribbon and bows but you can use any type of bag.
- 1 wrapped present. Recycled wrapping paper is best. I used newspaper.
The first thing to do is to lay out the plastic bag on a table and flatten it.
Cut the handle and bottom off of the bag using a scissor.
Cut the bag (width wise) into 1 1/2 inch strips to create equal sized "loops".
Take 2 loops and form a cross. Slide the horizontal (top) loop through the vertical loop.
Take the two ends of the horizontal (top) loop and slide the left end of the loop through the right side of the loop.
Gently pull the left side of the loop through the right side until it creates a knot. Remember to pull gently since the plastic can break.
Continue the same steps until you have a long strand of plastic ribbon. Use it to tie around a present just like you would store-bought ribbon. Tie a bow and clip the excess. Now you have a beautiful present and you helped repurpose a plastic bag! Share photos of your recycled wrappings on our Facebook page @traashart. Happy wrapping!
